ON Tuesday, August 7, the Ohio 12th Congressional District held a Special Election between Republican Troy Balderson and Democrat Danny O'Connor.  Mr. Balderson maintains a narrow lead with 1,500 votes. State Rep. Andy Brenner, who lives in Delaware County in the 12th District, discusses the breakdown of what happened in this election.

“The Supreme Court today in Janus v. AFSCME announced its basic rule of human decency and common sense: consent matters—and our hardworking public-sector workers can no longer be forced to pay for political speech or other activities without their affirmative consent.”

The 10th District Court of Appeals rules in favor of ECOT. The court gave a green light for ECOT to appeal the Ohio Department of Education's June 2017 decision to force ECOT to repay $60 million of payments. The State Supreme Court still has yet to decide the ECOT case on the retroactive application of the ODE's log-in requirements per student that put ECOT in non-compliance, which ultimately led to the school's closure. Ohio House Education Chairman Andy Brenner and State Rep. Andy Thompson discuss the court's decision and the tragic situation for the ECOT students that are still not accounted for by the Ohio Department of Education after the school's forced closure back in January.

Dallas First Baptist Under Attack for Stating that America is a Christian Nation

This past week in Dallas, Texas, First Baptist of Dallas and its pastor Robert Jeffress came under attack by a writer in the Dallas Morning News and liberal Democrat Mayor Mike Rawlings. First Baptist was advertising Freedom Sunday with billboards with the title, "America is a Christian Nation", which is the sermon theme. The billboard company Outfront Media informed the church that they were taking down the billboards because of the Mayor's comments and the article in the Dallas Morning News. Pastor Tim Throckmorton, FRC Midwest Ministry Director, and Pastor Gary Click of ORP Faith Engagement join in the discussion and give their thoughts on the topic.
